  1. The second feature which sets "Around the Corner" apart is that Grant picks up the soprano saxophone for two tracks. One would never guess that this is a recent addition to his arsenal, as he plays the horn with a beautiful tune and great fluency on the slightly latinish "The Scene is Clean", and the beautiful ballad "Maybe September", one of the CD's undoubted highlights.
  2. Stewart takes his family to the beach house; complications and hilarity ensue. This is a mildly amusing family comedy that plays like a sitcom. Stewart makes the most of his role while O'Hara is lovely as his understanding wife. Pop singer and teen heartthrob Fabian, inexplicably sporting facial whiskers, woos one of Stewart's daughters.

  5. I was screaming for more distortion: This riff's really gotta hang hard and long, and we burnt the amps up and turned the s--t up, and it still wasn't right. And then Ian Stewart went around the corner to Eli Wallach's Music City or something and came around with a distortion box. Try this. It was as off-hand as that. It was just from nowhere.
  6. Apr 20,  · Grant's album was all the more brilliant for allying Midlake's '70s soft rock fuzz to a set of startlingly direct and intimate songs that tackled the perennial themes of love, loss, hate and hope.
  7. Tenor saxophonist Grant Stewart, without apology, loves the old tunes, and plays them with fresh, hip intelligence. Every song sounds optimized when portrayed in Stewart’s large, looming, luminous tenor tone. “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “The Meaning of the Blues” and “Mr. Lucky” are lovingly sketched, but with a free hand.
